| A wooden cylinder of smaller diameter but longer length is inserted into the hollow metal cylinder. If these cylinders are wrapped with a sheet of paper and brought into the flame of an alcohol lamp for some time, then one can observe that one part of the sheet is charred, and the other is not. Explain the observed phenomenon.
Metal has a higher thermal conductivity than wood, so the metal cylinder removes heat faster and the paper does not have time to heat up to a high temperature.
