Dreamers and realists usually mean two types of human attitudes toward reality, although in their pure form they are not often found.
The dreamer is usually self-absorbed. The images of the desired future that he builds in his imagination are of very high value to him. Dreamers are characterized by a deepening into their inner world, the images that are born in which he projects on reality and builds his picture of the future.
Dreamers often tend to move away from reality into imaginary reality and indulge in dreams. However, not all of them are passive. A person immersed in his dream can be very active. Setting global and hard-to-reach goals, you can not just indulge in sweet thoughts about how everything will be fine when they are achieved. A dreamer can for the whole life systematically go to his beautifully imagined goal and transform reality. These include, for example, Tsiolkovsky, who not only dreamed about space exploration, but conducted serious scientific research.
Realists, by contrast, are focused on concrete results, achieved not in the distant future, but in strictly defined periods of time. They are characterized by a more sober perception of reality. However, this same circumstance makes them more mundane and practical. Because of this, they are not inclined to think in large categories, but prefer to break down a large goal into a series of small ones and move in small steps.
In general, it can be concluded that none of these types of attitudes toward reality is better or worse. Of course, preference for one of them gives a particular person the opportunity to better achieve their goals.
It is better for people who are engaged in work related to the execution of another’s orders or the execution of customer orders to be realistic. This type of understanding of reality is also suitable for politicians who do not have unlimited power, like Napoleon or Stalin and are forced to constantly adjust their goals and objectives with many circumstances.
On the other hand, if a person is engaged in creative or even scientific activity. Conducting independent research or comprehending the world, it is better for him to be a dreamer. In this case, the people around him (and especially the bosses) do not interfere in the implementation of his plans, and he can more effectively and freely set goals and achieve them.
