A flat mirror doubles the distance between an object and its reflection.
As far as the object is far from the mirror, so is the reflection far from it from its “mirror-like” side.

Therefore, the distance between them will be changed in double ratio.
Therefore, the distance between the object and its mirror image in the above example will decrease by 8 centimeters – 4 cm * 2 = 8 cm.
