Ancient Roman people (social classes and estates)

Roman society was divided into several social classes. Only men could obtain citizenship status. During the period of republican rule, citizens were divided into patricians (nobles) and plebeians (lower classes). Women took care of the home and family, but some noble ladies had a certain degree of power and influence. The fate of the Roman slave depended entirely on the will of the master, but for faithful service the slave could be freed.
