The lower planets look like this in the upper conjunction, but at this time the planet is lost in the rays of the Sun and therefore is not visible.
The upper planet in conjunction is not visible for the same reason. The upper planet has a fully illuminated disk only in oppositions, the time interval between which is equal to the synodic period.
