By whom and why was Lincoln killed?

The Civil War ended with the surrender of the Confederate States of America on April 9, 1865. The country was to carry out the Reconstruction of the South and begin the process of integrating blacks into American society. Five days after the war ended, on Good Friday, April 14, 1865, at the play “Our American Cousin” (at the Ford Theater), Southerner supporter actor John Wilkes Booth entered the presidential box and shot Lincoln in the head. The next morning, without regaining consciousness, Abraham Lincoln passed away.
