| Calculate what weight of plants (in kg) a pair of tits will retain when feeding 2 chicks weighing 3 g each. If, according to the rule of the ecological pyramid, to increase 1 g of the mass of consumers of the 2nd order, 10 g of consumers of the 1st order are needed
Food chain: plants → caterpillars → chicks. According to the rule of the ecological pyramid: 2 chicks weighing 6 g will eat 60 g of caterpillars. These caterpillars would eat 600 grams of plants. This means that a pair of tits, feeding their chicks, will save 600 g of plants. 600 g = 0.6 kg.
