Can a fish drown?

| Yes. Tropical freshwater fish from the labyrinth group live in shallow bodies of water with musty water, in which there is little oxygen. For additional breathing, atmospheric air is used, which is drawn into a special organ in the branchial apparatus. If these fish are deprived of access to air, they will suffocate after a while even in oxygen-rich water – “drown”.
