| Can nitrate solutions be alkaline? As a medium, solutions of the following salts have due to hydrolysis:
a) potassium nitrate,
b) copper (II) nitrate,
c) zinc nitrate,
d) barium nitrate?
Nitrates cannot have an alkaline environment, because nitric acid is a strong acid. Its salts can be either acidic or neutral.
a) neutral, because the salt is formed by a strong base and a strong acid. Does not hydrolyze
b) sour, because the salt is formed by a weak base and a strong acid. Hydrolysis by cation.
c) sour, because the salt is formed by a weak base and a strong acid. Hydrolysis by cation.
d) neutral, because the salt is formed by a strong base and a strong acid. Does not hydrolyze.
