Compare the spatial structure of methane and ethylene molecules.

In the methane molecule, the carbon atom is located in the center of the imaginary tetrahedron, and the hydrogen atoms are located at the vertices of the tetrahedron (tetrahedral structure). In an ethylene molecule, all atoms lie in one plane (flat structure).
