| Concentrated sulfuric acid was poured into one open beaker and concentrated hydrochloric acid into the other. How does the mass of each of the glasses change over time?
The mass of concentrated hydrochloric acid will decrease. Why? Volatile hydrochloric acid. Concentrated hydrochloric acid “smokes” in the air: the released hydrogen chloride, absorbing water vapor from the air, forms the smallest droplets of acid, so the bottle with concentrated hydrochloric acid should be kept tightly closed.
