Describe the main achievements of the international program “Human Genome”. What is the applied significance of this scientific work? What are the prospects for studying the human genome?

The human genome. The goal was to determine the sequence of nucleotides in the DNA molecules of human chromosomes, i.e., complete decoding of its genome. The main areas of the program included the construction of high resolution chromosome maps; the study of the genomes of model microorganisms, such as E. coli; creation of computer technologies for processing and analyzing data on genetic mapping and sequencing (from English, sequence – sequence) of organisms’ DNA; informing the public on issues related to obtaining genetic data about a person, discussing the ethical and legal aspects of the study of his genome.
Revealing the complete mystery of the human genome is yet to come. Only the first, structural stage of work related to elucidating the structure of genes has been completed. The second stage is more important – functional, i.e., associated with the study of the functions of all human genes.
The project set a reasonable, achievable goal of sequencing 95% DNA. Researchers were able to sequence 99.99% of human DNA.

Remember: The process of learning a person lasts a lifetime. The value of the same knowledge for different people may be different, it is determined by their individual characteristics and needs. Therefore, knowledge is always needed at any age and position.
