Describe the second stage of gametogenesis – the period of maturation of germ cells of male and female organisms. What features does this period have? Why does a modified or new set of genes form in gametes during maturation?

Stage of growth – cells increase in size and turn into spermatocytes and oocytes of the first order. This stage corresponds to interphase I of meiosis. DNA molecules are replicated with the same number of chromosomes.
The ripening stage is the third stage of gametogenesis. At this time, recombination of genes, conjugation of chromosomes and crossing over with meiosis occurs. Therefore, a new, modified set of genes is formed.
