The largest part of the brain, consisting of two hemispheres connected by the corpus callosum, each of which is formed by a white and gray matter. The gray matter forms a cortex of 18 billion neurons compressed into grooves and convolutions. The subcortical centers and cavities of the lateral ventricles are located in the white matter. The hemispheres are divided by furrows into four lobes: frontal, occipital, parietal and temporal.
