Determine the declination of a star if its right ascension is 176o15 / and at 11h45m sidereal time the height of this star in Astrakhan was 58o39 /. Find from the table which star it was?
Right ascension a = 176о15 / = 11h45m, therefore, the star was in the upper culmination, therefore b = f – z = 46o21 / – 90o + 58o39 / = + 15o.
From the table we find a star with a = 11h45m and b = + 15o0 /; it will be Leo (Denebola).
