| Does carbon dioxide support combustion? Where is this property of carbon dioxide used? How can you distinguish between two glasses: filled with air and filled with carbon dioxide?
Carbon dioxide does not support combustion. The use of carbon dioxide in fire extinguishers is based on this property. A burning splinter can be used to distinguish between glasses filled with air and carbon dioxide. In a glass of air it will burn, and in a glass of carbon dioxide it will go out.
