Examples of the use of algae by man

Algae, due to the large amount of iodine they contain, are used as raw materials in the preparation of many drugs, including for the treatment of the thyroid gland and some skin diseases. In addition to medicine, algae are widely used in the food industry: seaweed as a vegetable crop, and red and brown algae – for the production of gelatin. There is still an initial development of the use of algae in the energy sector, thanks to the oil, which is contained in some of their species. The essence of the development is to extract oil from algae and process it for fuel.
