Explain the reason for the situation in which a eukaryotic cell gene occupying a DNA region of 2,400 base pairs encodes a polypeptide of 180 amino acid residues.
To encode 180 amino acid residues, 540 nucleotides (180 triplets) of the template DNA chain are sufficient. Plus the same amount – the coding chain. Total – 1080 nucleotides or 540 base pairs.
