Explain the similarities and differences between mutational and combinatorial variability.
Mutational variation is associated with changes in genes. Mutation is a mistake in the hereditary material. As a result of mutations, both beneficial and harmful or indifferent changes in the trait can occur. Combinational variability is also inherited, but it is not associated with errors, but with the emergence of new combinations of chromosomes in the process of sexual reproduction. The structure of the genes does not change, and new combinations of characters appear and can phenotypically manifest in the offspring.
1) similarity: mutational and combinational variability affect the genotype of the organism and are inherited; differences:
2) mutations – changes in the genotype are caused by changes in hereditary structures (genes, chromosomes, genome);
3) with combinatorial variability, different combinations of genes arise.
