Explain where the interests of the free and slave states diverged. What contradiction between them was the main reason for the Civil War?

The interests of the slaveholding (southern) states consisted in the desire to impose slavery in the North. This was contrary to the interests of the free states. The industrial bourgeoisie and farmers of the North were interested in the elimination of slavery. The attitude towards slavery became the main cause of the Civil War.
