Explain why a cold changes the taste of food.

With inflammation of the nasal mucosa, the ends of the trigeminal nerve branch are pinched – the impulse passes with difficulty, the brain receives information with a delay. Since the trigeminal nerve also innervates the taste buds of the tongue, a signal of taste comes to the sensitive center of the brain with a delay or in a distorted form. For this reason, during a severe cold, the taste of food is so weak.
