Explain why Venus can only be observed shortly before sunrise or shortly after sunset.

| Due to the fact that the radius of the orbit of Venus is less than the radius of the Earth’s orbit, Venus is always closer to the Sun than the Earth. Therefore, Venus can only be seen by looking at a relatively small angle to the Sun. And when we look at the sky in the middle of the night, we look in the direction opposite to that where the Sun is.
