| Give examples of heat engines you know. What transformations of energy take place in them? Why can’t the efficiency of a heat engine be 100%?
A heat engine is a device in which the internal energy of the fuel is partially converted into mechanical energy. Heat engines include a steam turbine, a jet engine, an internal combustion engine.
The amount of heat released during fuel combustion is not completely converted into mechanical energy, since a significant amount of heat is transferred to the environment (heat loss), so the efficiency is not 100%.
