How are charged particles registered with a photographic emulsion?

As a result of ionization, a fast charged particle, when moving in a layer of photographic emulsion, creates centers of a latent image along its trajectory. After development, images of traces of the primary particle and all charged particles that have arisen in the emulsion as a result of nuclear interactions with the primary particle appear.
