| Igneous rocks are formed when magma solidifies, rising from the depths of the Earth. Sedimentary rocks form on the Earth’s surface as a result of the destruction of other rocks, the accumulation of debris, chemicals and the remains of dead organisms. Metamorphic rocks are formed as a result of alteration of sedimentary and igneous rocks.
