| Alveoli – numerous thinnest vesicles formed by a single-layer epithelium, braided by a dense network of capillaries. Part of the epithelial cells secrete a special substance – a suffractant, which prevents adhesion of the alveoli and has an antibacterial effect. Gas exchange occurs through the walls of the alveolar capillaries due to the diffusion of gases.
