How are the azimuths to objects determined on the ground?

To determine the azimuth on the ground you need:
– stand facing in the direction of the object to which you want to determine the azimuth;
– orient the compass, i.e. bring its zero division (or the letter C) under the darkened end of the compass needle;
-turning the compass cover, direct the sighting device to the subject;
– against the pointer of the sighting device facing the object, read the value of the azimuth.
