How are the extremities of insects?

The extremities of insects are a system of levers movably connected to each other with a large number of degrees of freedom, i.e., capable of various and precise movements. The running legs (bugs, cockroaches), the most common among insects, are most suitable for the described type. In animals capable of jumping, such as grasshoppers, the thigh and lower leg of the hind pair of legs are very elongated. In burrowing insects – a bear – all legs, and especially the front ones, are shortened, become massive and acquire powerful weapons from chitinous teeth. Swimming limbs are flattened in the form of a paddle and equipped with a dense row of elastic rowing hairs (swimming bugs).
