One of the main methods for overcoming infertility of interspecific hybrids is polyploidy. When using this method, spindle fission is purposefully destroyed by special substances (for example, colchicine poison), and doubled chromosomes as a result remain in one cell. Homologous chromosomes in multiple sets of parental individuals conjugate to each other, which restores the normal course of meiosis.
