| How can you establish the presence of hydrogen in a test tube? How does pure hydrogen burn? How does a mixture of hydrogen and air burn? What gas mixture is called oxyhydrogen gas?
The presence of hydrogen in the vessel can be recognized by the characteristic pop (explosion) that occurs when a hot match is introduced into the vessel.
Pure hydrogen burns calmly with a characteristic “p-groin” sound. If hydrogen contains an admixture of air, then when ignited, it explodes with a sharp “barking” sound.
A mixture of two volumes of hydrogen and one volume of oxygen is called detonating gas. It is a highly explosive mixture.
