How can you measure the sliding friction force with a dynamometer? Why should a bar dynamometer be moved evenly along a horizontal surface?

The sliding friction force can be measured with a dynamometer. To do this, you need to attach a dynamometer to a wooden block and evenly move the block along the board, placing the device horizontally. Two forces act on the block in the horizontal direction. One of them – the spring force – acts in the direction of the bar’s speed. The other – the sliding friction force – is directed against its speed. Since the bar moves uniformly and rectilinearly, the dynamometer shows an elastic force equal in magnitude to the friction force.
