How did the steppe animals adapt to their habitat?

Birds build nests on the ground, rodents live in burrows, and large ungulates (saigas) live in herds, since the steppe is an open area and it is vital to hide from predators and notice it as early as possible. Ground squirrels, marmots, and mice store food for the winter.
