DNA is a carrier of genetic information. In an untwisted state, DNA would reach 8.5 cm. DNA is attached to compact proteins. These are histone proteins, this is a special type of nuclear protein of nucleoproteins. The DNA molecule encircles the histone proteins, forming a nucleosome with a diameter of 7 nm. DNA and nucleosome histones are firmly connected by hydrogen bonds, this makes the DNA compact in the nucleus.
