How do transitional climatic zones differ from the main ones?

In the transition zones (subtropical, subequatorial, subarctic and subantarctic), air masses vary depending on the season of the year. In summer, there is a global shift of the whole circulation to the north, in winter – to the south. Thus, subtropical and even tropical air masses can enter the temperate zone in summer, and subarctic and arctic air masses in winter.
