How does a transformer work?

The transformer consists of two coils and a steel core running through both coils. The alternating current in the first coil creates an alternating magnetic field in the steel core. This field will create an inductive current in the second coil. If the number of turns in the second coil is n times greater than in the first, then the voltage between the ends of the second coil is n times greater than between the ends of the first coil.
