Muslims trace the years from the Hijra – the resettlement of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina (622). The Islamic calendar is based on lunar months (not solar years), so the difference in years between the two eras is not constant. 1995 A.D. corresponds to 1415-1416 A.H.
