Stereophony is a recording, transmission or reproduction of sound, in which audio information about the location of its source is preserved by means of sound layout through two (or more) independent audio channels. Sterephony is based on the ability of a person to determine the location of the source by the phase difference of sound vibrations between the ears, achieved due to the finite speed of sound. In stereo recording, recording is made from two microphones separated by some distance, each using a separate (right or left) channel. The result is the so-called. “Panoramic sound”.
