| Reaction equation:
4NH3 + 5O2 -> 4NO + 6H2O
From the condition V (NH3) = 16 liters. Calculate the amount of ammonia:
n (NH3) = V (NH3) / Vm = 16 / 22.4 = 0.7143 mol;
NH3 in the equation has a coefficient of 4, and O2 has a coefficient of 5. Thus, the amount of oxygen substance through the amount of ammonia substance is expressed as follows:
n (O2) = n (NH3) ⋅ 5/4 = 0.7143 ⋅ 5/4 = 0.8929 mol
Hence:
V (O2) = n (O2) ⋅ M (O2) = 0.8929 ⋅ 22.4 = 20 l.
