| The plane of the parallax ellipse of any star is parallel to the plane of the earth’s orbit. A star with parallax motion in a circle uniquely indicates the position of the pole of the ecliptic, that is, the point of intersection with the celestial sphere of the normal to the plane of the earth’s orbit.
