| The vital capacity of the lungs is the largest volume of air that a person can exhale after the deepest breath. The mechanism of inspiration and deep exhalation is carried out with the participation of skeletal muscles and the diaphragm. The better developed skeletal muscles, the more they can increase the volume of the chest, and therefore the lungs on inhalation, and the more they can compress the chest during deep exhalation.
