How was it proved that the ether does not exist?

Michelson tried to determine the speed of the Earth’s movement relative to the ether. The experiment was not successful, but some scientists believe that ether is still there. Its density is several thousand times that of air, but it is electrically neutral and therefore difficult to detect.
