How will the energy in the food chain change when moving from one link to another?

Plants in the process of photosynthesis use the energy of sunlight, which is converted into chemical energy in plant cells. This energy is stored in the resulting organic compounds. Animals receive organic matter, and, consequently, the energy contained in them with food. In the organisms of plants and animals, organic matter is oxidized. At the same time, energy is released, which is spent on vital processes. Part of the energy is dissipated as heat. The energy of organic residues is used by microorganisms that decompose organic matter.
