| Since the Sun has just set, and Stirlitz is looking east, the angular distance from the Sun to the planet is currently about 180 °. Venus, as an inner planet, cannot move far from the Sun in the sky (maximum by about 47 °). Consequently, Stirlitz saw Jupiter.
