In the oral cavity there is a stratified epithelium, and in the intestine – a single layer. How is this feature related to the functions of these parts of the digestive system?
The tissues of the oral cavity often come into contact with the external environment, are injured, interacting with hard and solid undigested food, the stratified epithelium helps protect the oral cavity from damage. The intestine absorbs the digested, processed food.
