This reaction depends on the activity of immunocompetent lymphocytes that respond to the transplant as a foreign protein. As a result, transplant infiltration by lymphoid cells occurs and blood flow ceases in it. Starting locally, this reaction gradually takes on a generalized character and leads to rejection of the transplanted organ.
