Economic development was also hampered by the lack of its own raw materials and coal, machinery and equipment. They had to be imported from England and Germany. Of course, France also exported manufactured goods, but these were mainly luxury goods, light industry products, and the import of goods exceeded export. In addition, a large number of small handicraft enterprises remained in the country (many employed from 2 to 10 people), and they did not use the new technology.

Germany Significant domestic market after unification, population growth, annexation of Alsace and Lorraine; government orders, militarization of the country, patriotic enthusiasm, hard work
England  Capital export in the form of government loans, naval power, strength and weakness – empire
France The narrowness of the domestic market, banking capital is cut off from industry, the rentier class
Austro-hungary “Patchwork empire”: interethnic cial contradictions uneven Nosta development, emigration
Italy Imports of manufactured goods and raw materials, two regions: industrial North and rural South; mass emigration (mainly to the USA)

Nevertheless , the country experienced an economic upswing. As in other industrialized countries, large corporations were created in France. By the end of the XIX century there were over 6 thousand joint stock companies in the country, and some of them became monopolies. For example, the metallurgical concern Schneider – Creusot is world famous . Large banking monopolies also arose. In France there were about two hundred families, connected by business and kinship ties, constituting the financial oligarchy and being the true masters of the country.
