List all organs that perform an excretory function. What is the significance of this function in the body? What substances are excreted from the body?

The excretory function maintains the constancy of the internal environment of the body, ridding it of an excess of organic and inorganic substances that violate homeostasis. The excretory function is performed by the kidneys, sweat glands, lungs, glands of the gastrointestinal tract (they secrete salts of heavy metals, some medicinal substances). The liver removes the breakdown products of hemoglobin, excess hormones, such as thyroxine. The lungs remove water vapor as well as volatile substances such as alcohol breakdown products. Sweat glands secrete water, salts, urea, uric acid. The kidneys excrete metabolic products of proteins and nucleic acids (urea and uric acid), excess water and some hormones (glucagon), as well as decay products of toxic substances neutralized in the liver.
