| The placenta (baby’s place) is an organ that carries out the relationship between the developing embryo and the mother’s body, and performs the following functions: gas exchange; food; selection; immune protection (intake of ready-made antibodies); secretory function (secretion of a hormone that preserves the fetus and stops the development of the next egg). The blood of the fetus and mother does not mix, the metabolism goes through the walls of the capillaries.
