| North America is said to have become English-speaking (not French and Spanish-speaking) due to some sort of “selection” among the emigrants. Who led him, where, when and why?
From the beginning of the conquest, the kings of Spain forbade all unbaptized Moors and Jews to go to America. Later, the Spaniards did not allow Protestants into their possessions, so that heresy would not spread in the colonies and they would not separate from the metropolis. Cardinal Richelieu did the same: he did not let Protestants into Canada and Louisiana. On the contrary, the rulers of England were ready to send all their rebels to the New World. So in North America there was a predominance of the English-speaking population.
