| Potassium permanganate was treated with concentrated hot hydrochloric acid. The gas released during this was collected, and a solution of potassium hydroxide was added dropwise to the reaction mixture until the precipitation ceased. The collected gas was passed through a hot potassium hydroxide solution to form a mixture of two salts. The solution was evaporated, the solid residue was calcined in the presence of a catalyst, after which one salt remained in the solid residue. Write the equations for the described reactions.
2KMnO4 + 16HCl → 2MnCl2 + 5Cl2 + 2KCl + 8H2O
MnCl2 + 2KOH → Mn (OH) 2 ↓ + 2KCl
6KOH + 3Cl2 → 5KCl + KClO3 + 3H2O
2KClO3 → 2KCl + 3O2
